Enterprise Study Yr 10 2017

So on 12th of February 2017, Our teacher Mr Handley Packems gave us a task of getting into a group of 4 and creating a product to sell on valentines day.So my group decided to make some chocolates and cookies. So then on Sunday, we all met up at a mall to collect all our ingredients to start cooking. And then we all went to one of our group members house and started manufacturing the products. The manufacturing part was pretty simple for us, it was just time-consuming since the chocolates took a while to set. And then the selling part was simple for the rest of our group. We mainly sold our product to school teachers, friends, and parents work mates and neighbours. We managed to sell all of our product for $8 each and made a profit of $334 and got around 80-90 dollars each. So, in conclusion, this was pretty successful.

Coffee Grounds Project

Day 1
I came up with the idea of what were doing and started seeing how much everything is gonna cost.

Day 2
We came up with a different idea for what we are doing.

Day 3
I called a place to see if they could give us some coffee grounds.

Day 4
We found a place where we could supply us with the coffee grounds and discussed our budget and got the prices.

Day 5
We figured all the equipment needed and the prices

Chicken And Rice Patties

For the very first practical we made chicken and rice patties
So the last theory lesson we learnt about health and safety and how we could keep our food from being contaminated by bacteria, like defrosting our food in the fridge instead of on the bench because if we left it out for a while bacteria will start becoming active and multiply. Safety is like being safe around knives and more. And hygienes are like being clean with food about bacteria. we also learnt how bacteria grows and multiplies and the effect it can give us.
This is important in food industries cause if one of them gets contaminated and someone gets infected or sick they will be blamed and not much people will buy their products.

Things we can do to keep our food safe on practical days is by using the right board and right knives to cut our food. And also washing our hands and whipping our tables before cooking.

Something that troubled us during this was that our patties wouldn't stick together and kept falling apart. One skill that I will repeat in the future is shredding the chick.

Health And Safety

So the past week we've been looking a health and safety and hygienes. We also learnt about cross contaminations and that if we leave something out for like 1-2 hours bacteria grows.

Health and safety are important in this classroom are that this room is full of hazards that can potentially harm us.

Our routines are Monday and Friday is theory and Wednesday is cooking day.

Bacteria can be harmful to us, gives us food sickness nad more the things needed for bacteria to grow is food, time, moisture, oxygen and warmth.

Science Yr 10 2017

Dissecting Heart Experiment
Aim:
To dissect a heart and successfully identify the parts of the heart.

Equipment:
Newspapper
Heart
Scallpel
Scizzors

Method:

  1. Spread out the newspaper 3 layers thick.
  2. Identify the right atrium and the left atrium.
  3. Stick your finger through the pulmonary artery into the right ventricle.
  4. Stick your finger through the Aorta into the left ventricle.
  5. Cut open both the left and right sides of the heart so you can see the left and right atria, and the left and right ventricles.
  6. Take a photo of the dissected heart so you can see as many different parts of the heart as possible.

Results
When first time I touched the heart it felt like weird and solid but of course, it was sorta frozen, but once it began thawing you could squeeze it and it felt like a stress ball but more muscular, and when we stuck our fingers in the aorta it felt slimy and wet. But when you smelt the heart it smelt foul and rotten, honestly if nearly made me puke... This was a first time I've ever had some hands-on experience with a real heart, but it was just a sheep heart.
Interestingly I could identify the main parts of the heart like the Aorta, the left and right ventricles and the septum. So what I found out was that the left side was thicker because the left side carried blood around your body whereas the right side sent blood to your lungs. We also found some little things on the top of the heart there was little veins I couldn't find the name of it.

Measuring Grip Strength
Aim:
To measure grip strength with different wrist positions

Method:
First, we made the thing that measured our grip strength, using a paper protractor and a bulldog clip and some popsicle sticks.
We measured it with the protractor while we tried to clamp it down, and then we get a friend to see what degrees it went up to.

Results
What I got for my results was 70degrees with my wrist pointing down, and 70 degrees on neutral position and then 65 degrees pointing upwards.

Here is a graph of our average
http://prntscr.com/e99j9d
The main results of the graph are that the neutral position is the strongest.

Discussion
What I found out about the position of the wrist was that, if it was pointing up it was weaker than the others, and the position of pointing was weaker than the neutral position but stronger than pointing upwards. The strongest position was, of course, the neutral position with the highest average in our class to be 40.8. And the downwards position to be 39.88 and the upwards 34.68.

We could get a better result by just using more high tech grip strength measuring machine.

Some of the data on the list my not correct cause people might not have been trying or that they put
false information.

The reason I think that the neutral position is the strongest is because in our arm we have tendons and then if we have the tendons pointing straight it would be stronger and if we have it bent it would be weaker.

Building Sports Specific Muscles
So the sport I am doing is Soccer.
Muscles that will need to be used are your legs muscles Quadriceps and the Hamstring.
Due to the amount of running and kicking they do during games.

Muscles work in pairs or antagonists, so one muscle contracts and the other muscle relaxes making the joint move so then the limb moves, so if you were wondering, the muscles don't actually connect with the bone, instead the muscle is actually connected to the bones via the tendon. Also, muscles can only contract and relax, it cannot pull. There is also a bit of flexible tissue between your joints called the Ligaments, ligaments also help your joints move freely, if we didn’t have ligaments we would probably be walking around with straight legs and straight arms. So if one of your muscles snaps or breaks this will result in extreme pain and will be unable to move.

Some exercises needed to work out the Quadriceps and the Hamstring.
Firstly you would need to do some warm ups and then after you could go for a little run then you could go up steps and down steps to work out the hamstring and quadriceps.
These exercises will help with these muscles getting used to being moved in that way so they will work easier and takes least pain. And this will also help expand the muscle.
